This morning Evan and I attempted to make my [sick] mom breakfast-in-bed...
We're not the best chefs around, but we do what we can...
And eggs and turkey bacon is about all we can do....
Throw in my mother's drug of choice, DP...
And our homemade birthday cards(a classic for Davis birthdays)...
And that's what breakfast in bed looked like for my mom this morning...
Nothin' fancy, but like I said, we do what we can...
But, oh people, that was not the surprise of the day...
What was the surprise?
Well, surprise number one required some planning. It was for my big brother, Michael, to come visit today. But, of course, we wanted it to be a surprise. So, basically we told my mom that Michael was planning on driving down to visit Friday (tomorrow) to go see the new Star Trek movie with my dad. The day AFTER her birthday, to go do something with our DAD. Mwahaha! She didn't suspect a thing.
She even mentioned to me on Tuesday that she thought it was funny that he was coming on Friday to do something with dad, right after her birthday and before Mother's Day...
She also mentioned laughingly that they probably hadn't even thought about it.
I just nodded and laughed with her... I think I said some along the lines of, "those silly boys..."
Heeheeheehee... :)
The main part of the day went pretty normally. The plan that my mom knew was that we would plan on having a cake and celebrating my mom's birthday more when Michael came Friday.
So after the breakfast in bed and birthday cards, we went on like it was a pretty normal day. After my mom relaxed that morning (and enjoyed the lovely flowers that Genny had delivered to her! She loved them, Genny!), she went in to work for the afternoon(she's been out sick for a few days). Which worked out perfectly, because it gave me a chance to straighten up the house a bit for her-- She would've come home and done it that night, because she still thought Michael was coming tomorrow.
She really wasn't expecting anything. It was perfect.
The time finally came this afternoon around five-thirty for Michael to surprise my mom. He called to tell her 'happy birthday' and then told her to go answer the back door. She opened the door to see Michael standing in the doorway holding three pizzas, a BIG blue gift back and a red velvet cake.
It was perfect! She was SO surprised. I have pictures, but I'm not sure my mom would appreciate me posting them and it's late, so I don't think I'll post any right now.
That was great in itself, but we had one more surprise coming...
We never get my mom too much on her birthday, so she wasn't expecting much. And I guarantee you she wasn't expecting this...
My mom has always talked about wanting an ipod, but never seriously considered just buying one for herself. We wanted to try and get one for her last Christmas, but it didn't work out. Ever since we've been planning on getting it for her birthday and mother's day. And that's what we did. :)
Those were the two surprises! I think my mom was truly surprised by everything. I'm so thankful for her, and I'm so glad we were able to make her day a little special.
one more time...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!!! I LOVE YOU!!!
It's been a long wonderful day, and now I'm heading to bed. We all get to hang out with Michael tomorrow!

Thanks, 'Chele. It was perfect. In every way. I'm sure you were a major part of the orchestration of the entire thing. (And thanks for the no surprise picture.)
And interesting pics on the end. Wow - at least my hair has gotten better.
I love you!
Wow, that sounds like a fabulous day of surprises. Happy birthday, Melissa!
