American Idol, top four!

I've blogged a couple times before about this year's American Idol season. But it was at the very beginning of the season, and now it's down to the top four, so I thought I would do another AI post before it ends!

If you want to read my other two posts about this season of AI, click here and here.

Who are the top four?

Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta.

I could say that I will tell you about them in no particular order, but I don't want to lie to you. I'm starting with my favorites. :)

Kris Allen
There are many reasons he's my favorite this season. I love that he came out of nowhere in the top thirty-six, and no one knew who he was because he hadn't been shown in any of the pre-live shows, but he made it through to the top twelve, and now he's in the top four. I love that, since the very beginning of the season, he's grown and changed with each performance. You can tell he has so much musical knowledge, and he can play an abundance of instruments(including the guitar, piano, viola and ukulele). He's also just a likable guy...he's always quiet and gracious no matter what the judges say to him...I think the way the contestants respond to the judging says a lot about the kind of person they are.

But the main reason I consider Kris my favorite: I would actually go buy his album! I can't say that about at least two of the other three. I guess I just like his style, but I could listen to him all the time.

Here's one of my favorites from his performances (it's the studio version, not the live performance. I couldn't find that.)... if you have a few minutes, you should watch it!

:::little rant:::

I'm really afraid he's in trouble tonight. Of course they had to do "Rock Week" so close to the end, when two of the top four are "rockers." That seems a little jacked to me. And the judges seemed to have pre-meditated reviews for the contestants based on the "genre"... Idol really seems like they're trying to get the audience to like certain contestants more this year. I don't like that. I can't even explain to you all the reasons I didn't like last night's show.

I can't put it any better than BooMama wrote in her blog reviewing last nights show. You should read it!

Don't worry, Kris! I will buy you album no matter what happens!!!

:::end rant:::

My next favorite, at a close second is...

Danny Gokey!
He's been one of my favorites since the very beginning. He's got an awesome voice. I think he was one of the early favorites this season. Different from Kris, he came out strong from the very beginning, and didn't have as much room to grow each week. Basically, he started out amazing, and has stayed amazing. I think some people are tired of hearing the same sort of thing from him each week, but I don't have a problem with it because he's amazing each week.

he also had some trouble with "Rock Week," but I'm thinking he'll be safe. It's so hard to tell at this point, though....

The gist of what I'm saying is, if I had it my way (and the good Lord knows I don't), Danny and Kris would be the top two on AI.

That probably wont happen, and I'm okay with it. At this point in the competition, they've made names for themselves, and they could go and get a record deal easily. And in some cases, the people that have not won Idol, and not been tied to all the "Idol winner" restrictions, have made records quicker and had more success... I'd just like my favorites to stick around as long as possible. :)

Oh, since I did it for Kris, here's one of my favorites from Danny...

The last two are my LEAST favorites, in no particular order...

Starting with...

Adam "Broadway" Lambert
The last American Idol post that I wrote about Adam, I shared that I was undecided about him. Part of me loved him, and part of me was creeped out by him. Well, we've gone through the whole season, and I've still gone between loving him and hating him. But I've finally decided that I really don't like him. At least, not as a "rock star." I would much rather see him in Wicked the musical, which is what he was doing before. He is awesome on stage, and I love the few videos of him as "Fiyero" from Wicked on YouTube. Here's one of my favorites of him in Wicked...

I LOVE him in this! He is obviously talented in musical theater.

BUT I just don't like him in the AI setting. He tends to be, of course, a bit over dramatic for my liking, and he also likes to be really extreme in any style he sings. He's got an amazing voice, but, unlike Kris, I would NOT go by his record.

I WOULD go see him on Broadway, though! (Well, if I had the money for that...)

The other thing I don't like about Adam doesn't even have to do with him, it has to do with the way the judges treat him. I feel like they've already given him the AI title, and they're just continuing to tell him how amazing he is each week. Like they don't even try to find things to critique. I just think it's fishy.

I actually think all of last night's show was fishy.

Again, go over the BooMama's post about AI, and you'll see what I mean. Really, I can't say it better than she did.

Last, and possibly least...

Allison Iraheta
OK, I think the last time I said anything about her, I mentioned that she had a good voice, but I thought she was a bit strange. She definitely stopped acting as strange (maybe after she watched herself!) and she does have a great voice. If it weren't for the whole Broadway thing Adam has going for him, I might like her better. And hey, she was born about two weeks after me (the same year and everything), so that's kind of cool. But I just don't like her style. The performances of her's that I liked best tended to be the ones that forced her out of the style she likes. She has a wonderful voice and she doesn't have to do the wierd screamy, rocker stuff to sound good, like some people do. Her voice is already amazing!

Forexample, last week was "Rat Pack Week", and everyone had to sing Jazzy American Standards. This was one she did pretty straight, not trying to put much of an edge on, and I thought it was great! Here's a YouTube video of it...

Good, right?

Alrighty, I think that's about all I can say about the American Idol top four. I've decided to make a little poll on the side so you can vote for your favorite out of the top four! Not necessarily who you think will win, just your personal fav.

I've got a long to-do list calling my name, and AI results is on in less than an hour, so I better get off this darned, time consuming computer!
